Testimonials, Writing, and the Back Cover

Well, I now have three awesome testimonials for the back cover of Young Falcon, from P.G., my cousin J.H., and my school's principal. So happy with the feedback they gave me!! I think they all really enjoyed my book (what they read of it, anyway), and that's SO encouraging. I feel like people automatically think that because I'm only fifteen, my book's going to be for ten-year-olds. One of the ladies my mom works with in the cafeteria asked her, "How's Elizabeth's children's book coming?" ERG!! If you've read any of my book, you know it's definitely NOT a children's book!! Not meaning that it's inappropriate, just...too mature (and possibly tedious) for middle-schoolers. But if anyone asks you about Young Falcon, please clarify that it's not for kids below the eighth grade! This series is designed and aimed towards high schoolers and older kids, not young ones, and the first book (Young Falcon) is the most mild of them all.
So! I managed to write two pages on the third book last night, which is a really good thing, because I had been completely stuck only a few pages away from one of the most important events in the entire series. It's so very annoying when I can't write and I'm so close to something so big. But God decided it was time for me to get working again and gave me some inspiration, which was so appreciated! Thanks, Daddy! :D
The back cover should be done by tonight (my editor said she'd be sending it to me tonight), so I shall let you know how it looks, if I like it, etc. We're getting so close to being done!! I think it should definitely be released by my birthday (November 14th), if not sooner. Please keep praying that all goes well; your prayers have been SO helpful and I know God has blessed me because of them. God bless you; I love you all so much!!

Hectic Days

Well, I've now completed my second week of school, and while it's been a very fulfilling and epic two weeks, it's also been exhausting. I already have two projects assigned that are due in two weeks, and I've turned in an annotated bibliography for English. Geometry is hard already....ugh! The only good thing about school is, of course, my amazing and wacky friends; they always make me laugh and remind me that it's not the educational things that are important, but the relationships I'm creating and renewing.
I'm working on the back cover of Young Falcon also, along with all the school stuff. There's going to be 3 testimonials on the back, one from Mrs. Weed (credentials = Doctorate and Masters in Education), one from P.G. (credentials = my best friend!), and my elder cousin Jayson (credentials = teacher and has a Masters in English). Fun stuff! That way, I can show that teens, adults, and guys can all read and enjoy my book. Also been writing the acknowledgments and dedication; that's been an epic experience :) I'm so busy, but the work I'm doing is so enjoyable!!
But...I haven't had time to work on Book Three any these past few weeks....well, ok, I have, but I've had other things that needed doing first. Hopefully some pages will get written today! Please keep praying for my book and me; your prayers are greatly appreciated! :) God bless!

Second Day of School and Formatting

Well, today was my second day back at school...It's been great to see all of my amazing friends again, but I feel like I've already been back for five months! And having to run four laps around the soccer field in the 104 degree, breezeless Texas heat didn't help much either ;) It's good to be back, though; this year should be good :)
On another note, I just sent Laura (my cover designer) my approval of the final cover proof, and it looks pretty awesome, if I do say so myself ;) Can't wait to actually hold it in a few months! I feel like my kid's about to be born or something...Awkward illustration, I know, but hey, that's what it feels like! ;) Haha! I also had to choose between two amazing chapter graphics. The first was really epic and sorta flowery, which might not appeal to the male population, and the second was a lot simpler but still sort of elegant and gritty, which goes well with my book. I think it'll work better with the subsequent books.
Ahhhhhh!!! I'm getting so close!!!! God is so amazing and powerful and awesome, and I'm SO GLAD He blessed me with this writing ability and is giving me this life-changing opportunity to glorify Him through my writing. Please keep praying for me as we wrap up this publishing process! God bless y'all!!

The Lake - Results

The lake was awesome!!!!! Whooooo! I love water so much! :D
Nicole and Priscilla and I played MASH on my iPod on the way to the lake, and we came up with some very...interesting results....But it was really funny! We arrived at the condo and had a ton of trouble with the lock....turns out we had the wrong combination! Ahaha, of course we did...We were probably out there for fifteen or twenty minutes. We went swimming in the lake and then to dinner at a tasty little restaurant down the road. Then we went swimming again later that night and met this teenage guy named Raymond, from Round Rock. He was really awesome and hung out with us for a while. He made our night a lot of fun, as we jumped around on the dock and the giant SplashZone inner tube. We didn't see him again after that night, though.
Yesterday, we swam a lot and came up with the idea of rewriting the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender so that Zuko and Katara get together (muahahahahaha!!!) as Nicole, Priscilla, and I are avid Zutara fans :) We came up with several new episode ideas, and if I ever get around to writing them, I may post them on here just for fun :) That was a lot of fun; we also made Priscilla and Nicole into mermaids....very fat mermaids, haha! There had to be a lot of sand, so it made them look fat (they're not, by the way ;) ) We also fed Frosted Mini Wheats to Rufus, who reappeared. We herded the poor little guy (he's a duck, by the way, if you don't know who Rufus is) to the shore and I ran to get something to feed him while Nicole and Priscilla kept him there. I think by the end of his meal, he decided that captivity wasn't so bad :) We also failed at playing volleyball....but I won't go into that ;)
Today, we just swam again and talked about our stories. Priscilla's writing one (visit her blog by clicking here) and so is Nicole, so we discussed different ideas and thoughts about them. That was fun! And then we cleaned the condo and headed home. All in all, an amazingly awesome adventure! :D

To the Lake!

Going to the lake with the G's today! Whoo-hoo! N.G. and PG13 are going along with me, my mum, and my dad, and we're gonna spend the night out there. We might go see a movie, and we're definitely going night-swimming :D It's gonna be epic; I shall tell you all that occurred when we return :)
Still working on those darn fonts, too... :/

Oh, Cover...

Still working on that darn cover...It's looking good so far, but the font for the title and my name is turning out to be a problem. Should it be gold or black? Fancy or simple? Bold or regular? Ugh! I couldn't even use my favourite font of all time, Killigraphy, because it doesn't stand out enough :( I understand why I can't use it, but that still makes me sad. Oh well; we'll find one even better :)
I really like the girl I found to represent Elysia! She's awesome, and I doubt we could have found anyone much better. So happy with her! :D There's still kinda the problem with subsequent covers, of course, but for now, everything's working out. Keep praying for me and my book!! :)

Another Snippet From Young Falcon

Here's yet another snippet from Young Falcon, just to keep your curiosity and excitement going. Enjoy!

(From the chapter 'Flight')

A sudden wave doused me with cool river water, making me flinch with surprise. Once the water splashed down the ground, I sat up and forcedly coughed the liquid out of my mouth and throat. I glanced in confusion at the river; I had not thought we were close enough to it for me to get so wet. But the water churned and frothed angrily behind me, abnormally so. Waves sputtered high in the air and sprayed us with icy water. I sucked in my breath as the water doused me again, making my muscles tighten.
    “Well, well, well.”
Gasping, I whipped my head around and saw the man from the pass, the one who looked identical to Lliam, standing over me, his sword at my neck. His blue eyes were vaguely amused. “Look what we have here,” he said softly, eyes boring into me with a strange intensity.
Panting, I was silent as I stared back.
He knelt down before me, and I instinctively scooted back a few inches, unsure what was going to happen next. “I’m sure Lliam’s told you who I am, hasn’t he?” he said in a very low voice, one that I doubted anyone else could hear. “But in case the name slipped your mind, I’m Roman,” he said, blue eyes still searching mine.
I said nothing, though my heartbeat gained speed and began pounding against my chest like a prisoner banging on her cell for release.
I heard the sounds of a scuffle nearby, and, turning my head, I saw Efroy being restrained by three of Roman’s men, but they were having a difficult time, so greatly was Efroy struggling against them. They called another soldier over to help them, but Efroy fought with even greater intensity.
I turned my attention back to Roman as he said, “You got something in Meneltauré, didn’t you, Elysia? Something I would be very interested in obtaining. And since you and your friend are so conveniently here with us, why don’t you give it to me, and you can be on your way, hmm?”
I started to say something, but suddenly Efroy broke loose from the soldiers and in an instant was behind Roman. He jerked Roman to his feet and held the dagger to his throat. “Let Elysia and me go,” Efroy hissed, the blade so dangerously close that with the tiniest movement, it might cut Roman’s neck. Alarmed because he looked so much like Lliam—and I briefly forgot that it was not Lliam that had Efroy’s knife to his throat—my heart skipped a beat, and I waited breathlessly. Nevertheless, Roman seemed strangely relaxed, as if he were merely humouring Efroy.
Roman’s soldiers instantly raised their arrows and pointed them at Efroy, but he did not seem too concerned: He had Roman as his shield.
However, it seemed Roman had other plans. He jabbed his elbow back into Efroy’s ribs with such an incredible force that Efroy doubled over, the dagger falling from his hand. Roman caught it and whirled around, kicking Efroy in the side of the head as he fell. Once Efroy was on the ground, Roman held the dagger to Efroy’s throat. “I think not,” Roman hissed.
    “Elysia!” Efroy gasped. “Jump!”

Just a little teaser :)

Designing Covers

Well, I finally heard back about the cover for Young Falcon. Ms. Hara sent me the 4 different designs that the designer, Laura, created, and I would put my favourite up on the blog, but Mum said I can't, as it's not copyrighted yet. You shall see it soon, though! It's pretty good; the only thing I don't like is the girl that Laura chose as Elysia...she looks kinda dorky, and her dress is too medieval (Laura used Shutterstock.com to find pics of Elysia, Lliam, and a falcon). I also don't like the font she chose, so we're gonna change that. I searched Shutterstock and found a pic of a girl I like a lot better for Elysia; she looks like her and doesn't look goofy :) So we'll see if Laura can switch the girls out. The cover actually turned out better than I was expecting, considering that all we're using is Shutterstock, so thank God for that! :) I know He'll make it so that the best cover possible will be the one we end up using, so I'm not worried, just anxious to see it!
To the G's: I'll email y'all the cover so you can see it and tell me what you think! :)

Mission Complete!

Young Falcon is edited! Whoo-hooo! One more review by Ms. Scandora, and then it shall be completely and finally EDITED!! :D Today = AWESOME

50 Pages Left

Until I finish Round Two of editing! :D It was so much faster this time around because all the big stuff had been dealt with last time. There were just a few small things to change, and they were easily fixed. Still haven't heard back from Sheryn Hara about the cover... :( Keep a-prayin'! :)

Hamilton Pool

Is SO awesome!! One of the most beautiful places around! Dad took me out there around 9:30, and I met up with N.G. and PG13 once there. We hiked down to the Pool, whereupon I was greeted by J.G. and P.G. I also noticed a ninth grade guy from my school, M.S., in the water, which surprised me, and then I also saw E.H., another guy from my school! Wow, that's weird, I was thinking. But once we got in the water, who should pop up but T.C. (Snickerz)! Right in front of me! And he yells, "BETH!!!" and hugs me; so random! :D Had absolutely no idea he was gonna be there! It turns out that he and the other guys were part of P.G.'s Scouts troop, and that's why they were there. It was so awesome to see them all! We swam over to the deep end of the pool for a while and climbed on the big rocks and tossed the football. PG13, P.G., and I hunted for fish for a while, and then went to eat lunch. Once back in the water, N.G. and T.C. went off to catch minnows, and PG13 and I took one of the noodles out to the deep end and discussed....Zutara (the pairing of Zuko and Katara in the show Avatar: The Last Airbender)! Zutara SO should have happened!! And we talked about the new series, The Legend of Korra, which is due to come out this November :D And then we hiked around the rocks again and then went home. It was SO FUN!! But now we only have 10 days left until school starts...which is both good and bad: good 'cause I wanna see all my buddies again, but bad because I don't like any of the classes I have to take. Meh. Oh well, the epicness of my friends shall overcome the non-epicness of my classes :)

Party Today, Party Tomorrow

Got back from M.D.'s sleepover at around 1; it was so much fun! When we first got there, we went out to her living room and picked out flip flops that she had bought us, and there were cut up strips of bandanas that we could tie to the straps of the shoes. My shoes are pink/green with purple bandanas :D Then we decorated her cake, which started out as a plain iced chocolate cake and ended up with a tennis court of M&Ms, a pool of M&Ms, giant cherry gummies, 'planking' gummy bears, a gummy bear grave, and some other strange things. It looked absolutely terrible, but it tasted really good! Then we waited until N.G. (who had volleyball practise) got there, and then we watched Soul Surfer and ate the cake and popcorn. After the movie, we up to M.D.'s room and got ready for bed, whereupon we played 'Would You Rather...?' and then went to sleep. It was SO HOT in there!!! There were 9 girls all in one room, and I had this real thick sleeping bag that made it really hot even with the ceiling fan on. It was also kinda hard to be comfortable, 'cause another girl's head was just like a foot away from my feet, so I couldn't move around too much, which I usually do before I go to sleep.  When we woke up, we ate breakfast, took pictures of us jumping, and then went home. 'Twas very fun! And then tomorrow, the Gs invited me to go to Hamilton Pool with them, and I can't wait to go back! There's a picture of it up there somewhere :) It's so beautiful!! I'm making it the hideout of two very important fugitives in the third book, and I should be writing about it fairly soon; can't wait! :D

A New Snippet From Young Falcon

Here's a small snippet from Young Falcon, just to keep you excited and interested in it, 'cause I know you will read it just because I wrote it, but I want you to read the next ones because you liked the first one! Enjoy!

(From the Chapter 'Awakening')
I grimaced as light streamed into my eyes. My eyelids fluttered back over my eyes, protecting them from the painful rush of light. I felt light-headed, and my forehead throbbed. The warmth of the sun splashed across my cheeks, making me hot.
The warmth suddenly vanished as I sensed something moving in front of the sun’s path. Hoping the light would not still pain my eyes, I opened them a crack. Light streamed around the figure of a person kneeling in front of me, casting me in shadow. Who is that? I thought, squinting to try to see better. The person’s outline was fuzzy and indistinct; I felt as if I was seeing the outline from underwater. There was the even fainter outline of a second person behind the first. I grimaced as a wave of pain racked my body, shaking me to the core. Tremors followed a second later.
I winced as the person shifted, letting light hit one side of my face. I quickly closed my eyes as the bright warmth dazzled my eyes. Ohhh … that hurt. What’s happening to my eyes? I shifted, but I could not tell if I was lying on the floor or on something or even if I was right side up. My sense of direction and perception was completely muddled. I gasped as the person knelt down and touched my face gently, but I was more startled than afraid.
    “Elysia.”
I moaned and shifted again, wishing the light would dim. It hurt my eyes even when they were closed.
    “Elysia.”
I moaned again and felt tremors course down my body, followed by a searing blast of pain that engulfed me like an angry outburst of crimson fire. It felt as if red-hot lead was being poured through my veins. My muscles froze with the paralysing wave. I gritted my teeth as another surge of pain pulsed in my blood, determined not to scream. My heart fluttered like a dying bird.
Intense colours pulsed behind my eyes as the agony redoubled, and I let loose a hoarse scream that echoed strangely in my ears, as if I was in a large space that was devoid of life and pressed down around me like a blanket.
I feebly opened my eyes again and looked into my own eyes, the same eyes I had looked into the night I had watched the line of human soldiers pass by, the night I had met Veryan. I was dimly aware of a gentle touch against my mind as I slipped into unconsciousness.

“I don’t understand. Say it again,” I said. My eyes searched Yaron’s in question. He sat beside me in my cell, arms crossed over his chest and leaning against the stone wall. His face bespoke weariness and concern, but there was something in his eyes that made me uneasy, something about the way he looked at me. The omnipresent sparkle was somehow softer and gentler than it usually was.
“He refused to give me his real name; I don’t know why. He said it would be safer for all of us if only you knew. I can only guess there’s something he doesn’t want us to know or find out about his history or who he is.”
“And you think he’s the reason I’ve been having all these strange nightmares and unexplainable visions?” I said, fingering a round stone.
Since I had woken up from my last bout of agony, Yaron had been explaining to me what he had discovered about the human and what role he played in my foreign emotions and dreams. I was extremely sceptical of the idea that he had just … connected to my mind, and that his emotions and thoughts and memories were overriding mine to the point where I could not tell which were his and which were mine. Concerning the pain, the only explanation Yaron could come up with was that he had been wounded or something had happened to him that was causing him all the agony that was also plaguing me.
“I do,” Yaron sighed, running his fingers through his hair. “I don’t know how, or why, but I do think he’s the source of your pain.”
I stared at my bare feet in silence. This is so strange. I wonder what Malitha would say, and what her opinion about this whole thing would be. I shivered at the memory of my twin and closed my eyes, trying to eradicate the harsh feelings I had had towards her. I sighed. I miss her.
    She’s your sister, isn’t she?
My eyes flew open, and I sat upright with a start. Yaron watched me with a studied expression. “What is it?” he breathed.
I exhaled shakily and replied, Yes. Who are you?
You may call me Lliam, but do not tell Yaron, nor anyone else. My connection is with you and only you.
How do you know Yaron? I asked, bristling slightly. And who are you? My voice held barely contained venom after all I had been through during the night.
I’ve met Yaron before, he answered wearily. As for my name, I believe I told you call me Lliam, no?
Why this secrecy? Why are you trying to hide who you are? I asked, feeling guarded and frustrated, yet curious and sympathetic at the same time. I did not know what had happened to Lliam, but his voice held the same weariness and caution that Yaron’s did when I first met him. And the name … I had heard the name Lliam somewhere before…
It’s not by my choice, believe me, Lliam said, a hint of bitterness coming into his voice. If I could, I’d break out of this prison and ride as far away as I could and never look back.
I felt a twinge of pity and emphasised it in my next words: So you, too, are imprisoned?
Yes. I am. Lliam was silent for a moment, giving me a chance to mull over his words.
I blinked as I considered his words. So … he hates his imprisonment as much as I do. I wonder where he is being held and why. I raised my eyes to the ceiling. I wish I could help him. Then I asked, Where are you held, Lliam?
I was unprepared for the spiteful venom in his voice when he snapped, What’s it to you? Why would you care? You’ve never met me! You don’t know what I’ve done! If you did, then I think you would not be so eager to want to help me!
And with that, Lliam withdrew from my mind with a sharp pull. Remnants of his consciousness and emotions still lingered, but the entirety of his being was gone.
Bewildered, I looked over at Yaron. He offered me a confused half-grin and said, “He’s friendly.”
I exhaled and leaned back against the stone wall. “That’s what worries me.”

The Final Editing Stage

My editor sent me the newest version (the 'mostly correct' version) of Young Falcon to polish up, and this'll probably be the last I edit it - she'll review my changes and then we should be done....we should be; one can never be sure in the publishing business ;) However, my school has registration today from 12-2, and then one of my very good friends M.D. has a birthday sleepover tonight, so I don' t think I'll be getting much editing done today - but that's okay, because I'm too excited to edit (or focus) anyway! In my opinion, you shouldn't write if you're not in the right mood, because then it won't be very good and you'll end up trashing what you wrote anyway, but that's just the rule I live by.
There were only a few things left I have to edit, such as some time inconsistencies when Elysia and one of her friends are travelling, some incorrect things in a speech, and just kinda small tidbits like that. It shouldn't take very long. I will keep you posted, and keep on praying! :)

My Computer is Evil

Every day, for the past four days, my computer has increased the page count of my third book by thirty pages. And I haven't written anything in four days! It just...spontaneously decides to increase the page count! What's with that??? Erg...computers just don't like me. Can't even figure out how it's doing that! I was almost up to 400 pages a few days ago, and now there's suddenly 452! *facepalm*
